DOCSpeaks: Film Clips and Discussion, “Angel of Alabama” (Hybrid)

DOCSpeaks, short talks on cultural competence, will present A is for Advocate and Angel of Alabama, Brenda Hampton’s story of environmental justice and healthcare. Film clips will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with director Elijah Yetter-Bowman.

Angel of Alabama focuses on Brenda Hampton’s tremendous efforts in rural Alabama, which brought about change to her local communities and rippled on a global level. Brenda was named a 2019 “Women Who Shape the State” by Birmingham Magazine. She has directly served her community dealing with extreme environmental injustice by providing clean water, food, medical supplies and virtually any resources needed. In addition, her advocacy has leveraged fast-food giants like McDonald’s and Wendy’s to voluntarily transition to environmentally cleaner products.
