The UODI’s open enrollment training programs are offered both in-person and virtually for staff and faculty at UNC. All training courses are free, though we ask those interested to register ahead of time. You can find the dates and registration links below for Summer 2023.

Psychological Safety & Inclusion

Psychological Safety is critical to inclusive leadership and fostering belonging on a team. In this training, participants will be introduced to the concept of psychological safety and its four stages of safety: Inclusion, Learner, Contributor, and Challenger. Participants will examine ways to help create and foster psychological safety in order to address implicit bias, navigate microaggressions, and engage conflict productively. Highly recommended for managers.

 

The LARA Method 

Date: Thursday, May 18, 2023 2:00-3:30

The LARA Method is a de-escalation tactic that can be used to facilitate challenging conversations, redirect harmful interactions, and build connections by helping others feel heard and understood. During this training, participants will focus on its application during high-tension situations in the workplace. Participants will engage in small group case studies to explore the LARA method in action.

 

Supporting Diversity of Faith in the Workplace

What is faith and why is it important to understand in the workplace? This introductory training will focus on self-awareness and provide some introductory tenets and practices of the diverse religious communities at Carolina. The session is highly interactive and will work to address misinformation, stereotypes, and generate conversation by using diverse faith-based scenarios and provide practical tips to help foster inclusion and belonging across faiths in multi-faith environments.

 

Allyship in the Workplace (LeanIn) – Part I

Allyship at Work teaches employees to recognize their privilege and power to create change, and introduces them to more than 50 research-backed steps they can take to show up as allies. Individual activities, real-life stories, group discussions, and videos help participants develop a shared understanding of allyship and prepare to take action in ways that center impact—and avoid pitfalls like performative allyship or the savior mentality. *This a is 2-Part series. In this introductory session, participants will examine their own generational traits, habits and behaviors and then identify inclusive strategies and tactics to foster greater innovation, intergenerational cohesion, and appreciation amongst team members and colleagues.

 

Understanding and Managing Implicit Bias

Implicit bias exists in all of us. It helps us make quick decisions by identifying patterns that pop up in our day to day lives. When we allow these biases to influence opinions without the proper information or context, we run into trouble. Participants will examine how addressing implicit bias is a critical and foundational step for DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging) efforts in the workplace and classroom.

 

Identifying and Navigating Microaggressions in the Workplace

In this introductory training, participants will develop a deeper awareness surrounding the common occurrence of microaggressions in the classroom and workplace. Participants will discuss the experience of microaggressions through the use of mini-case studies and how they adversely impact others. Finally, participants will explore strategies to identify and effectively respond to microaggressions.
