Intergroup dialogue

The Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) model was designed to facilitate difficult conversations about social issues, identity, and difference. The intended outcome of these sustained dialogues is to build positive relationships between people from diverse backgrounds by giving the participants the skills to communicate and have empathy for one another.

Our office offers IGD-inspired programming for undergraduates, graduate and professional students, faculty, and staff in the UNC community. Currently, we are launching the following initiatives:

  • The Carolina Dialogue Across Difference Program (for Staff and Faculty)
  • The Dialogue for Change (DFC) Program, a two day intensive retreat will be offered in 2023 and 2024 for two distinct cohorts (program description and applications will be available in late November 2023):
    • DFC – UNC Carolina Staff and Faculty (October 12, 2023 and October 13, 2023) Program Closed.
    • DFC – UNC Carolina Graduate and Professional Students (February 29, 2024 and March 01, 2024)
