The University Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council was charged by the Provost on May 21, 2020.

Acting with the Committee Co-Chairs, the University Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council is charged to:

  • Develop and recommend short- and long-term strategic goals, including the business case, for (Interim) CDO and the University Office for Diversity & Inclusion that are informed by the Carolina Next strategic plan
  • Connect DEI campus activities, courses, research and policies to the Carolina Next strategic plan
  • Provide guidance, feedback and consultation for the (Interim) Chief Diversity Officer in setting priorities for programs, policies and services that are part of the UODI official strategic plan
  • Assist the (Interim) CDO and the UODI team with embedding the DEI function across the University, including in schools, departments, units and organizations
  • Develop a communications plan to share the work of this Council with the University community
  • Develop a method to analyze the effectiveness in fulfilling the goals and objectives of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council

The University Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (UDEI) Council is comprised of chief diversity officers from the respective schools/colleges and key senior leadership. The UDEI Council serves as the advisory council and recommending body to the Chancellor, the Provost and the Vice Provost/Chief Diversity Officer, and liaisons to schools and colleges across campus. The UDEI works closely with the Vice Provost/CDO to help implement Carolina’s diversity, equity, and inclusion action plan and to promote knowledge, skills and best practices.
