Yolonda Childs is a dedicated educator driven by faith and passion to serve as a positive role model. A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina she is a first-generation alumna of Winston-Salem State University with a BA in Mass Communication (Public Relations), High Point University with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration for Non-Profit Organizations, and Capella University with a Master’s Degree in Human Services.

Currently, Yolonda serves as the Student Success and Retention Counselor at UNC-Chapel Hill School of Nursing. Her duties include, but are not limited to, providing situational and crisis counseling referrals, implementing academic activities, success coaching, student advocacy, and retention initiatives for nursing students both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

In her “spare” time, she spends quality time with family and friends, traveling, shopping, and planning events. She is active in her church, community, and local school system as a volunteer. Her motto is simple, “I Can.”

I most admire my mother because of her resilience, hard work, and self-determination.
