Dr. Holman-Copeland is Coordinator of Resiliency and Student Success here at UNC-Chapel Hill. She is a two-time alumna of UNC-Chapel Hill.

As a professionally trained Health Educator and Wellness coach, Dr. Holman-Copeland is affectionately referred to by students as “Dr. D”. Dr. D. has spearheaded several officially recognized groups on campus. Two of the most prominent ones are R.E.A.L. TALK and SISTER TALK. These groups promote a community of well-being and agency, allowing students to be their authentic selves. Dr. D’s work emphasizes persistence, awareness, resiliency, and a growth mindset. She is a Carolina Covenant Mentor and works to enhance and elevate a “sense of belonging”.

Dr. D. was appointed as one of the chairs of the UNC Campus Safety Commission by Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz, a two-time Diversity Award recipient and recipient of the 2019 University Award for the Advancement of Women. Her goal is to ensure the success of every student at the University of North Carolina contributing to the next generation of leaders.

Whom do you admire and why?

My Mother: Did the most with the least. Valedictorian of her high school class from a very poor family and not a great deal of financial resources or support. In spite of it all, she persisted and showed perseverance. She is my greatest role model and has given me so much motivation.
