MLK Jr. Day of Service Project

The MLK Jr. Day of Service Project empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions to social problems, and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.”

On Monday, January 15, 2024, we will continue Dr. King’s legacy of civic engagement and service by participating in a collaborative service project with the community by shepherding a food and toiletry drive. Donations to the food drive should be nonperishable items. The day of service event will take place on Monday, January 15, 2024 from 1pm-4pm at the Woollen Gym. The first 20 people to bring five (5) nonperishable items and/or toiletries will receive a MLK Jr. Day of Service t-shirt and free entry into the “Hoops for Hunger” basketball tournament. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to win door prizes, which includes an autographed basketball from the 2023-2024 UNC men’s basketball team. Contributions received from the food/toiletry drive will be donated to Carolina Cupboard, an on-campus organization that provides food assistance to individuals in the Carolina community. Proceeds from the Autographed Basketballs for Community Service will benefit Inter-Faith Council for Social Services.

The MLK Jr. Day of Service is co-sponsored by the Autographed Basketballs for Community Service and the UNC General Alumni Association
