Workshop: Queer Classrooms

January 26, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Inspired by the work of Queer Feminists Alexis Pauline Gumbs and Sara Ahmed, this workshop offers a time and space to commune with like-minded peers about the queer classrooms we want to see in our universities. Communications Ph.D. student and Initiative for Minority Excellence Scholar Nicole Castro (she) helps us bring our hopes, challenges, and fears together in a generative way.

The workshop is designed in two parts: one reflective and one creative. During the first half, we will explore together what we care about in a queer classroom: to give graduate instructors space to reflect on the values they want to manifest in their classrooms – dialogue, experimentation, new knowledges, well-being – as well as collaborate and share ideas on syllabus/activity/assignment design that will make these values a reality.

Please bring a classroom activity you want to (re)design, as well as your favorite activities or assignments for sharing.

Please register here. Lunch will be provided.
