(W)omxn of Worth Initiative Lunch & Learn: Authenticity in Academia and the Workplace

February 7, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

The (W)omxn of Worth Initiative‘s Carolina & Career Development Committee will present a Lunch & Learn focused on “Authenticity in Academia and the Workplace.”

Womxn of color ask themselves a myriad of questions daily about their own cultural authenticity that either confirms one’s stigmatized identity or empowers and frees one to be their true authentic self (“Should I wear my natural hair?” “How can I speak up against stereotypes and microaggressions without being the angry womxn of color in class or in my work place?”). It can be exhausting to “code switch” between work/class self and personal self and it often yields nothing more than a greater level of frustration.

This interactive session will help participants identify elements of themselves that are important to maintain in their work or class environment, explore ways to incorporate these elements into their personal space and discover healthy ways to approach challenging conversations related to their authentic selves in these spaces. Lunch will be provided.
