UNC Faculty Symposium on Deliberative Pedagogy

The Program for Public Discourse will present the “UNC Faculty Symposium on Deliberative Pedagogy.” Dr. Kevin Marinelli, Executive Director of the Program for Public Discourse, will make the introduction. The event will be comprised of several sessions:

Communication Beyond Carolina (10–11 a.m.)
Panelists:

  • Dr. Charlotte Boettiger (Psychology & Neuroscience)
  • Nick Siedentop (Office of Undergraduate Curricula)
  • Dr. Erika Wise (Geography)

Facilitating & Evaluating Public Discourse (11 a.m.–12 p.m.)
Panelists:

  • Dr. Kelly Hogan (Biology and Office of Instructional Innovation)
  • Dr. Lloyd Kramer (Carolina Public Humanities, History)
  • Dr. Michael Vazquez (Philosophy)

OPTIONAL breakout rooms for informal dialogue and exchange of ideas (12–1 p.m.)

Engaging Race and Racism in the Classroom (1–2 p.m.)
Panelists:

  • Dr. Travis Albritton (School of Social Work)
  • Dr. Sibby Anderson-Thompkins (University Office for Diversity and Inclusion)

Student Perspectives on Dialogue and Debate (2–3 p.m.)
