The North’s Lynch Mobs: The Afterlife of Segregation

November 8, 2018 @ 3:30 pm

The Department of English and Comparative Literature presents The North’s Lynch Mobs: The Afterlife of Segregation, a talk by Dr. Jennifer D. Williams, professor of English, Howard University.

Williams’ book project, Intimate cities: Black Women’s Literature and Urban Segregation, explores how an aesthetics of intimacy captures the relations between spatiality, blackness and gender in black women’s urban literature. Her discussion connects the viral #LivingWhileBlack videos to a broader narrative of surveilling segregated populations.
