Screening of “Inherent Good” and Panel Discussion on Economic & Racial Justice in the 21st Century
April 29 @ 5:00 pm
This virtual event begins with a free screening of the feature documentary INHERENT GOOD, starring southern comedian Andrew Yang. The 60-minute film will be followed directly by a live panel discussion on “Economic & Racial Justice in the 21st Century: The Intersectionality of Race, Class & Guaranteed Income.” This conversation will focus on the role of direct cash programs in changing the way our economy works for people of color. From guaranteed income to an overhaul of our social safety net, to reparations, direct cash and a reimagining of our systems are at the heart of the conversation. We will look at the impact of current direct cash demonstrations and implications of their data for how we could move forward towards transformational change in our most marginalized communities. And we will talk about the work currently underway across the country designed to help us get there.
The discussion will be led by Aisha Nyandoro, CEO of Springboard to Opportunities & Magnolia Mother’s Trust.
Special guest panelists will include:
- Former KY State Representative Charles Booker
- Rev. Liz Theoharis, Co-Chair Poor People’s Campaign
- Sarah Beth Gehl, Southern Economic Advancement Project
- Mayor Lauren Poe, Gainesville, FL, who is leading a guaranteed income pilot for ex-prisoners to end the cycle of the criminalization of poverty
