QCAPS March 2021 Speaker Series: Transgender 201: History and Conversation

Join LGBTIQA+ Graduate and Professional Students (QCAPS) for a presentation by Dr. Terri Phoenix, director of the LGTBTQ Center at UNC-Chapel Hill. Dr. Phoenix will present on the history and controversy associated with transgender identities, terminology, and communities. This will be followed by an open discussion of lived experiences and reactions to the content presented.
The material in the presentation assumes a familiarity with basic concepts associated with sexual, romantic and gender identity.
Dr. Phoenix is an alumnus of East Carolina University (BA), UNC-Greensboro (MS) and University of Georgia (PhD) and served on the Executive Board for the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals. T has 20 years of experience working with you in various settings, including therapeutic group homes, detention centers, psychiatric hospitals, high schools and non-profit organizations. Dr. Phoenix has given numerous invited and peer-reviewed presentations on cultural competency and inclusive practices at local, regional and national conferences. T lives in Durham, North Carolina with T’s wife, Kendra, and daughter, Duncan.
