Michael R. Diehl Civil Rights Forum – Pride was a Riot: Reflecting on the History and Progress of the LGBTQ+ Movement

July 27, 2020 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

In the half century since the Stonewall Uprising, the LGBTQ+ community has achieved significant civil rights milestones. Now, at a pivotal point in our nation’s history, and in light of how recent events have brought about a renewed focus on the violence and danger that certain members of the LGBTQ+ community still face every day, this year’s Michael Diehl Forum will focus on the crucial impact that transgender, non-binary, Black and other people of color within the LGBTQ+ community – a group that has not always been adequately recognized by or shared equally in the campaign’s overall success – have had on the LGBTQ+ movement. Although there is much progress to celebrate, there is still work to be done to guarantee equality for all members of the LGBTQ+ community. Our distinguished panelists have dedicated their careers to the LGBTQ+ movement and to advocating for all people to live without discrimination. Please join them for a lively discussion on the history and progress of the LGBTQ+ movement, the major issues facing trans and gender non-conforming and Black and other people of color within the larger LGBTQ+ community today, and what each of us can do to help secure equality for all.
