LGBTQIA+ Speaker Series: Creating a Welcoming Space for LGBTQ+ Patients and Families

November 12, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The November LGBTQIA+ Speaker Series will feature JoAn Stanek, DNP, RN, ANP-BC (she/her/hers), who will present “Creating a Welcoming Space for LGBTQ+ Patients and Families.”

This presentation examines the need to provide a safe and welcoming space to LGBTQ+ persons and families at end of life. It discusses the necessity to promote a respectful environment and the importance that hospice and palliative care healthcare providers be educated in the use of inclusive language to provide a welcoming space. The presentation is a result of Dr. Stanek’s DNP Quality Improvement project.

Dr. Stanek has been an Assistant Professor at UNC-CH School of Nursing since 2006 and a Registered Nurse since 1984. To remain current in practice, JoAn has worked as a per diem staff nurse for the past seven years in hospice and palliative care.

If you have any questions or accessibility needs, please contact Jay Jayaraman, Graduate and Professional Student Program Coordinator, at meerajay@email.unc.edu.
