La Lucha Sigue: Bilingual Presentation on the Rights of Women and Indigenous Communities in Guatemala

Elodia Castillo Vasquez, Maya Ch’orit’ Indigenous authority and president of COMUNDICH in Guatemala, and Roderico Y. Díaz, indigenous Maya Kaqchikel photojournalist based in North Carolina, will present “La Lucha Sigue – The Struggle Continues.” The focus is on the struggle by women and indigenous communities to recover ancestral rights and territory in Guatemala in the face of forced migration. Specifically, they will speak on: Recovering ancestral territory and rights under the threat of a militarized state the current political situation and the effects of the recent state of siege in Guatemala the fight for historical memory and justice after genocide in Guatemala; the effects of U.S. policies Alliance for Prosperity and the “third safe country” agreement; and how to take action in solidarity with grassroots communities in Latin America.
