Global Careers for LGBTQ Folk Panel
October 5 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
The Carolina Asia Center is organizing a panel to discuss the key roles that members of the LGBTQ+ community have in today’s society. As they exhibit strength in society and the workplace, they face certain challenges in their daily lives because of their sexual orientation and gender identity. This panel will discuss the pride in the LGBTQ+ community and the opportunities that come with it as students pursue their future careers, along with ways to tackle the obstacles that they may come across.
The included panelists all have their unique backgrounds:
- Lacy Ferrell is a historian of West Africa at the University of Central Washington and a member of the AHA Committee on LGBTQ Status in the Profession
- Anna Kirey got her MA in Eastern European and Russian Studies from UNC and has been active in NGOs promoting LGBTQ rights in Eastern Europe.
- Camilo Ramirez is a UNC alum and has worked for various NGOs in Washington (WRI, HRC, Brookings) for the past decade. He is currently living in Ecuador with his partner Andrew, a first-year FSO officer.
The discussion will be co-led by Professor Honing Lau, scholar of law and LGBTQ rights, and Willie Person Mangum, a Professor of Law at UNC with expertise on Asia.
The panel will take place on Zoom. Those who do not feel comfortable registering for the event can still watch it live on the Carolina Asia Center Facebook page. If you plan on attending register with the link below.
