Diaspora Festival of Black & Independent Film: “Where the Children Play” and “The Valley of Black Descendants”

October 5, 2017 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

As part of the Sonja Haynes Stone Center for Black Culture and History’s Diaspora Festival of Black and Independent Film, two films will be screened:

  • Where the Children Play – (18-minute short documentary) In times of violent intolerance, this film follows a group of children who live between the neighborhood and the woods, living joyful adventures and the learning of a Candomble’s house.
  • The Valley of Black Descendants (El Valle de los Negros) – (52-minute full length documentary) In Chile’s Azapa Valley, an oasis in the driest desert in the world, a group of descendants of enslaved men and women brought from Africa is organizing the first African census in the history of Chile. Their aim is to get official recognition from the State that has concealed their culture and African identity for more than 200 years.
