Carolina Conversations: “Am I My Brother’s Keeper?”

January 10, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Dr. Kim Strom-Gottfried will present “Am I My Brother’s Keeper?” at this month’s Carolina Conversations. This conversation will examine common ethical issues that emerge in the university environment, the barriers to action, and the steps all employees can take to create a safe and productive workplace. Universities, comprised of people, are susceptible to and not immune to the problems revealed in the #MeToo movement. In addition to policies and enforcement offices, it takes all of us to mete out unacceptable conduct. In fact, stark power differentials, professorial autonomy, and the pressure and rewards of scholarly success add complexities to the usual workplace challenges of upholding personal and organizational integrity. What can and should colleagues do to create a culture of respect, fairness and freedom from retaliation or harassment? All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate in this critical discussion
