La Comunidad Sigue – LHM Finale – UPDATED
October 15 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Initially, this time was scheduled for the celebration of Carnaval. Instead, the Carolina Latinx Center and Mi Pueblo have arranged for a different event with food, de-stressor activities and an opportunity to connect.
The full message of explanation from the leaders of Mi Pueblo is as follows:
Good afternoon, everyone,
First, we hope that you are all doing well despite the tough week we have faced as a Carolina community. Thank you all for your flexibility and understanding regarding how we will be moving forward with the LHM closing event tonight.
We want to be fully transparent about how we have been working on all fronts to attempt to find a new location away from the pit out of respect for the memorial current in place. We looked into moving to the Quad, Polk Palace, South Campus, Davis Library, and the Amphitheatre. Unfortunately, despite our constant effort, none of these locations were approved for our use.
Granted the magnitude of Carnaval, – we have decided to cancel the event at the pit out of the abundance of respect we have for the losses we have experienced. We understand the importance of being in community during these difficult times and therefore have decided to instead host a wellness and community-focused event tonight to provide space for our peers to feel heard, supported, and of course, fed.
We are here to support one another and hope to come together to provide an opportunity to support the broader Carolina population. We want to leverage the resources we already had in place to best serve our members, therefore:
We have put together a new event entirely.
We have shifted our location to the Carolina Latinx Center where we will have two food trucks that will distribute food to students and there will be some wellness booths set up for students to destress and chat with representatives in the Latinx community.
Our emphasis will be on community building, togetherness, and friendship — la comunidad sigue.
Special thank you to the following organizations for their continued support for this event despite these changes: Brazilian Student Association, Caribbean Student Association, HarmonyX, Carolina Latinx Center, and Student Life and Leadership.
With all the love and respect,
