A Celebration of Pauli Murray: A Local Civil Rights Icon

March 3 @ 6:30 pm

WUNC invites you to join Race and Southern Culture Reporter, Leoneda Inge, for a night of conversation, poetry, and discussion honoring local Civil Rights legend Pauli Murray. Pauli was a Black, queer, woman who grew up in North Carolina and became an important player in the battle for Civil Rights. Learn how she fought against discrimination using her words, writing poems, advocating for justice, and inspiring change.

The event will feature excerpts from WUNC’s newest podcast series, “Pauli,” and clips from “My Name is Pauli Murray,” a documentary from the creators of “RBG” that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.

Leoneda Inge, who hosts the “Pauli” audio series, will talk with managing producer Charlie Shelton-Ormond about their research into the scholarship and activism of Durham’s Pauli Murray. North Carolina Poet Laureate Jaki Shelton Green will read some of Murray’s poetry throughout the evening.
