Now that you’ve registered for North Carolina Renaissance, you probably have many questions about what to pack, what’s allowed, and what to expect once you arrive at Carolina.

NCR will be held Wednesday, July 18, to Saturday, July 21, 2018.


Be prepared to arrive for check-in at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Horton Residence Hall on Wednesday, July 18th between 8 and 10 a.m. Please make arrangements to depart/check-out between 7 and 9 a.m. on Saturday.


All NCR participants must complete the Emergency and Medical Release Form in order to participate in the program. If you have NOT completed your medical release form, you can do so by clicking here. You will also have an opportunity to complete a form when you arrive.  

Additionally, as a part of our program, you will be participating in the Carolina Adventures Challenge Course, an outdoor low ropes course designed to develop group cooperation, strengthen communication, and sharpen leadership skills. In order to participate in the Challenge Course, students must also complete the Carolina Adventures Challenge Course Participant Agreement & Release. Please print and complete this form and bring it with you to registration.

  • Small alarm clock
  • Reusable water bottle

  • Bed linens (Twin XL bed size)
  • Blanket or sleeping bag
  • Towels
  • Pillow



  • Spending money (optional)
  • “Talents,” if you wish to participate in the Talent Show (optional)
  • Camera
  • Cell phones are permitted with restricted use during the program
  • Laptops are not recommended but are permissible if the student has academic needs






You will be provided with a Carolina blue NCR shirt that you MUST wear on Thursday morning and afternoon. You may want to consider that when planning what else you will be wearing. There will be a lot of walking and summer heat, so please be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring a reusable water bottle that can be easily refilled at the filtered water stations around campus.


Project Uplift does not permit the following:

  • iPods, DVD players, or other electronic equipment
  • Weapons, alcohol, illegal drugs, or tobacco products

If you are found in possession of ANY of these items, you will be dismissed from the program, and your parents or guardians and the authorities will be notified.

You should arrive for check-in at UNC-Chapel Hill’s Horton Residence Hall (Please navigate to 411 Skipper Bowles Drive, Chapel Hill, NC 27514). Once you arrive at the destination, staff and Public Safety officers will direct you to the unloading area.


From I-40 West and I-85 South (Charlotte, Greensboro, Winston-Salem, Atlanta):

  1. Follow I-40 East towards Raleigh/Chapel Hill.
  2. Take Exit 270 (US-15/US-501) towards Chapel Hill.
  3. Turn right onto US-501S/U.S. Hwy 15/501 S and continue straight for 5 miles.
  4. Turn right onto Manning Dr.
  5. At stop light, turn left onto Skipper Bowles Drive.
  6. Your destination will be on the left. Staff will direct you where to unload.

From I-40 East (Raleigh, Wilmington):

  1. Follow I-40 West towards Raleigh/Chapel Hill.
  2. Take Exit 273A (Hwy 54 West) towards Chapel Hill.
  3. Continue on NC-54 West for 3 miles.
  4. Take the slight right onto the NC-54W/US-501 S/US-15S ramp then merge onto NC-54W/US-501 S/US-15 S.
  5. At second stoplight, turn right onto Manning Drive.
  6. At stop light, turn left onto Skipper Bowles Drive.
  7. Your destination will be on the left. Staff will direct you where to unload.

From I-85 North (Washington, DC, Richmond, Durham):

  1. Follow I-85 South towards Durham and the intersection with Highway 15-501 South.
  2. Keep right at teh fork to continue on US-510 S, follow signs for US-15S/US-70BUS/Hillsborough Rd/Chapel Hill.
  3. Keep right to continue on US-501 S/U.S. Hwy 15/501 S and continue straight for approximatly 5 miles.
  4. Turn right onto Manning Dr.
  5. At stop light, turn left onto Skipper Bowles Drive.
  6. Your destination will be on the left. Staff will direct you where to unload.

From 15-501 North (Pittsboro, Southern Pines)

  1. Follow 15-501 North towards Chapel Hill.
  2. Take ramp onto NC54 East/US 15-501 North; Continue onto NC-54 E/US-501 N/Fordham Blvd S/U.S. Hwy 15/501 N.
  3. In 1 mile, use the left 2 lanes to turn left onto Manning Drive.
  4. At stop light, turn left onto Skipper Bowles Drive.
  5. Your destination will be on the left. Staff will direct you where to unload.

Students will eat their meals in the Chase dining hall. We have taken note of dietary restrictions and special needs that you listed on your medical release form and will share that information with Dining Services. If you need assistance at any point during the program, please tell a staff member.




Participants must depart the NCR site between 7 and 9 a.m. on Saturday morning. Please make arrangements to be picked up during this time.

Participants are not allowed to leave their residence hall until they have been checked out by NCR Staff. Parents should report to the drop off location and give staff the name of their participant and staff will release the participant.

Before leaving the premises, participants are expected to leave their room clean and return their key. Failure to return the key will result in a charge of $75.
