Preparing for ACE
Now that you’ve registered for Achieving Carolina Excellence (ACE), you probably have many questions about move-in and what to expect once you arrive at Carolina.
You’re in the right place! The tabs below will provide you with all you need to know (though if you should have further questions, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org). ACE will take place Thursday, August 15 to Saturday, August 17 and special sessions will be held for parents and families on Thursday, August 15.
All ACE sessions ARE mandatory! Therefore, we expect ALL ACE participants to be present and on time to all sessions. Please review the schedule carefully and inform us of any conflicts you may have by Monday, August 12.
Be prepared to move into your residence hall between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm on Thursday, August 15th. When you arrive at your residence hall, you will be able to check into your room and ACE simultaneously. The ACE Welcome Session will begin promptly at 1:00 pm. Therefore, you and your family should plan to have lunch and to complete any outstanding personal business before 12:30 pm. ACE Legacy Leaders will be available in the residence hall lobby to answer any ACE-related questions you may have while you move in.
RESIDENCE HALL CHECK-IN
Once you arrive at your residence hall, report to the designated check-in area and check into your room. You should have received move-in guidelines/instructions from Carolina Housing. Please follow all residence hall move-in procedures. Visit housing.unc.edu to find the address of your residence hall and see below for the Key Pick-Up and ACE Check-In locations for your assigned residence hall.

LIVING ON CAMPUS
If you are living on campus, you can complete your ACE registration and pick up your materials in the same location where you picked up your room keys. Once you’ve checked into your room, find the ACE registration table. It is very important that you check-in at the ACE registration table. You will receive your ACE schedule and all other program materials at this time.
If, for some reason, there isn’t an ACE Check-In location in your residence hall community, you can check-in at the ACE Welcome Session in Genome Sciences Building, Room 100, beginning at noon.
LIVING OFF CAMPUS
If you are living off campus or did not check-in at your residence hall community, you can check in at the ACE Welcome Session in Genome Sciences Building, Room 100, starting at noon. Please note: Parking is not provided. You may pay to park in the Rams Head Parking Deck ($1.75/hr.).
ATTENDING NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION
If you are attending the last New Student Orientation session, you will have the opportunity to check in during the “Achieving Carolina Excellence – 101” Session in Genome Sciences Building, Room 100.
AFTER YOU MOVE IN
At 12:30 p.m., the ACE Legacy Leaders will guide students and families from your residence halls, to the ACE Opening Session. If you are living off campus, you may also meet Legacy Leaders at SASB Plaza, to be guided to the Opening Session.

Select meals will be provided to ACE participants: Dinner on Thursday; Lunch on Friday; Breakfast and Cookout on Saturday.
Lenoir Dining Hall will be open for lunch on Thursday and other campus eateries will be open at various times. For information about campus dining options, please click here.
Attire for all events during ACE is casual.
Join other new students as administrators, staff, and student leaders provide helpful information and share their viewpoints on the Carolina experience.
You must have a ticket to attend the dinner. Tickets will be given out at the end of the Achieving Carolina Excellence 101 student session on Thursday.

ACE PARENTS & FAMILIES
Parents are welcome to participate in a portion of Achieving Carolina Excellence on Thursday, August 15th. Programming includes the Opening Session, Family’s Guide to Academic Success, Achieving Carolina Excellence 101 – Family Edition, and the Dear Family student panel. After those sessions, parents will have an opportunity to say goodbye prior to departing campus.
Parking is available at Rams Head Parking Deck ($1.75/hr).
ACE PROGRAM MATERIALS
Where should we go first on August 15th?
Plan to move into your assigned residence hall between 8 a.m. and 12 noon on Thursday, August 15th. When you arrive at your residence hall, you will be able to check into your room and ACE simultaneously.
How will I know where to go? Will there be someone to guide me?
There will be Legacy Leaders available to guide students and parents to each ACE session. Please see the schedule above and take note of the times when Legacy Leaders will be escorting students to the session.
What should I bring to the ACE sessions?
You should bring your program and the name tag that you received at check-in, as well as a writing utensil.
Should my parents and family come?
Yes, we have special sessions designed for parents and families on Thursday, August 15th. These sessions are not mandatory.
Will my parents be able to park?
There is no long-term parking at your residence hall. Parents and families may park at Rams Head Parking Deck ($1.75/hr).
Where should I check-in if I am not living on campus?
Check-in will take place at the opening session – see details above.
If I have a scheduling conflict during ACE, what should I do?

Are the ACE sessions mandatory?
Yes. All ACE sessions are mandatory. However, we can make exceptions where necessary. Please contact us with any known conflicts at firstname.lastname@example.org by August 12th.
Will ACE be providing all of my meals?
No. ACE provides select meals – please see list above in the Dining Section.
