Ryan McKeel (they/them/theirs) is a Student Engagement Coordinator with D&I, assisting with Inclusive Student Excellence programs, such as Beyond Carolina and Achieving Carolina Excellence, as well as our Summer Enrichment Institutes (Project Uplift, Uplift PLUS, and NC Renaissance).

Ryan brings with them a strong interest and vast experience in student identity and psychosocial development, having earned their Bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies from Wingate University. and is currently a Masters of Education candidate in the Student Affairs Administration in Higher Education program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. With a background in Residence Life having worked in the field at both the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as well as at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Ryan has experience in Intercultural Engagement, Queer Student Support Services, and Campus Violence Response.

Ryan applies this background – along with their passion for equity, inclusion, and civic engagement  – to their work in D&I. Says Ryan, “I am inspired by Dr. Seuss’ line, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better; it’s not.

I love scary movies, I play the flute and I have four tattoos!

What’s on your bucket list?

Finishing my tattoo sleeve and being an extra special guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race!

Whom do you admire…and why?

My mom; she works my nerves (whose mother doesn’t?) but she is one of the strongest people I know.
