Dway Stover (she/her/hers) is a Student Engagement Coordinator with UODI, assisting with Inclusive Student Excellence programs, such as Beyond Carolina, Achieving Carolina Excellence, Dia de Bienvenida and Native Heels Day, as well as our Summer Enrichment Institutes (Project Uplift, Uplift PLUS and NC Renaissance). Dway brings with her a strong interest and vast experience in educational support, having earned her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from North Carolina Central University and her Master’s degree in Adult Education (with a focus in higher education and student affairs) from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University.
At NCCU, she was an orientation leader and student ambassador, playing a critical role in on- and off-campus recruitment, participating in panels and public speaking, and giving campus tours. As she became involved in student organizations, she served as an advocate for student engagement and involvement. At NC A&T State University, she completed her practicum and interned with the Office of Student Activities as the Office OrgSync Coordinator, planning and working on events and trips for the student body, as well as ensuring that communications reached all campus faculty, staff and students.
Prior to coming to UNC, she worked with Youth Development coordination of the middle school and teen classes at the John Avery Boys and girls Club. There, she planned and coordinated programs, events and learning experience and environments that supported the social, mental and education growth of her students, while also fostering healthy relationships.
She applies this background – along with her passion for working with students and helping people find their purpose and a sense of belonging – to her work in D&I. Says Dway, “I am inspired by Michael Jackson’s lyric, ‘If you want to make the world a better place, take a look at yourself, then make a change.’”

Name Your Favorite Podcasts.
I don’t really watch podcasts, but recently I’ve been watching The Internet is Undefeated. They discuss life, music, current events, fun facts, conspiracy theories and other things.
What’s the best perk of your job?
I love seeing the planning and coordination of events and programs for the students come to life, as some of these programs are very close to the hearts of the students, and it’s amazing to watch them learn and grow. I love seeing confidence released as well as experiencing the various personalities and stories that teach me about cultures, opinions, knowledge, as it enhances my understanding, learning, and appreciation for the aesthetics of humans and human nature.
In an alternate universe, what would you do for a living?
I honestly do not know. I’d probably be trying to save endangered animals.
Name three things that most people would be surprised to learn about you.
Drawing and painting are therapeutic for me. I play multiple instruments. I’ve been speaking Spanish since the 6th grade.
What have you yet to tackle on your bucket list?
My goal is to travel to Africa, Barbados, London, Cuba, Ireland, Hawaii, Bora Bora and other places around the world. I also want to meet a giraffe and see some of my favorite artists in concert.
Whom do you admire…and why?
My mom is at the top of the list. She raised me and words cannot describe how grateful I am for her being my mom and all that she did and does for me. Also, I admire Malcolm X, Huey Newton, and Assata Shakur.
